Pura UV-UVBB-2 SD 5 Micron Sediment Filter 15 GPM

The Pura UV UVBB-2 SD combines heavy-duty 5 micron sediment filtration with 22-watt UV sterilization in a single Big Blue housing rated for 15 GPM continuous flow. This residential-grade system uses oversized 4.5" x 20" cartridges and 1.5" NPT ports to deliver bacteria-free water without pressure loss.
SPECIFICATIONS

Pura UV UVBB-2 SD Technical Data

Model Number UVBB-2 SD
Maximum Flow Rate 15-16 GPM
Sediment Filter Size 4.5" x 20" (5 micron)
UV Lamp Power 22 Watts (Size #20)
UV Exposure Dose 16,000 µWs/cm²
Port Connections 1.5" FNPT inlet and outlet
Dimensions (H x W x D) 28" x 15" x 9"
Voltage 110V
INSTALLATION & USE

System Setup and Operation

  1. Mount unit vertically on a wall or floor stand using the bracket points on the housing, ensuring adequate clearance for cartridge changes (minimum 24" below unit).
  2. Connect 1.5" FNPT inlet and outlet lines with Teflon tape or thread sealant, positioning the sediment filter housing before the UV chamber in the flow path.
  3. Install the 5 micron sediment cartridge into the Big Blue housing, then insert the UV lamp and quartz sleeve (size #20) into the chamber according to manufacturer torque specifications.
  4. Purge air from the system by running water with the UV lamp off for 2-3 minutes, then power on the UV ballast and verify lamp operation through the viewing port.
  5. Replace the sediment cartridge every 3-6 months depending on water quality, and replace the UV lamp annually or per manufacturer schedule regardless of visible operation.
COMPATIBILITY

Application and Replacement Parts

The Pura UV UVBB-2 SD is designed for whole-house residential applications, well water systems, and commercial installations requiring high flow rates with sediment pre-filtration and UV disinfection. This unit accepts all standard 4.5" x 20" Big Blue cartridges, allowing you to customize filtration media (carbon, iron reduction, scale inhibition) while maintaining UV protection downstream. Replacement UV lamps use Pura UV size #20 specification, and quartz sleeves are also size #20. The 1.5" FNPT ports are compatible with standard schedule 40 PVC, copper, or PEX plumbing adapters.

🔧 Pro Tip: Install a pressure gauge before and after the sediment housing to monitor differential pressure. When the delta exceeds 10 PSI, replace the cartridge even if it hasn't reached the time interval—this prevents flow restriction and maintains optimal UV contact time for sterilization.
