Working with Polyethylene Tubing
- Measure and cut tubing to required length using a sharp tubing cutter to ensure clean, square ends that seal properly in compression fittings.
- Insert tubing fully into push-fit or compression fittings until it bottoms out, ensuring the tubing reaches past all O-rings and into the grip ring area.
- For compression fittings, hand-tighten the nut, then use a wrench to turn an additional half to three-quarters turn until snug but not over-torqued.
- Pressurize the system slowly and inspect all connections for leaks, checking again after 24 hours once the tubing has fully seated.
Applications & System Integration
The Watts-I8040 tubing integrates seamlessly with standard 1/2" push-to-connect and compression fittings used across reverse osmosis systems, water softeners, whole house filters, refrigerator ice makers, and misting systems. Its high-density construction makes it ideal for both pressurized supply lines and drain lines in residential and light commercial water treatment installations. The black color provides UV protection for outdoor runs and aesthetic flexibility in visible installations. Compatible with John Guest, Sea Tech, and other industry-standard quick-connect fittings designed for 1/2" OD tubing.
