Compatible to Intelifil (IF-SM-SCIG020B) 20"X4.5" Big Blue (GAC) Carbon-Polyphosphate Scale Inhibitor-Chlorine Filter by IPW Industries
20"×4.5" Big Blue GAC Carbon + Polyphosphate Scale Inhibitor Filter
Three filtration technologies in one 20×4.5 inch cartridge
Coconut Shell GAC
Four pounds of premium granular activated carbon removes chlorine, organic contaminants, THMs, and improves taste and odor. Black coconut shell carbon offers superior adsorption capacity.
Polyphosphate Scale Control
Two pounds of slow-dissolve NSF 60 certified clear bead polyphosphate media inhibits scale formation and corrosion in pipes and appliances. Sequesters iron to prevent staining.
10 Micron Sediment Filtration
Nominal 10-micron rating captures dirt, sediment, and turbidity while allowing excellent flow rates up to 4 GPM through the 20 inch cartridge body.
Multi-Purpose Protection
Ideal for whole-house applications requiring simultaneous chlorine removal and scale prevention. Total weight 6 lb 4 oz provides substantial media contact time.
Direct fit for 20×4.5 inch Big Blue housings
This IPW Industries cartridge is manufactured as a compatible replacement for the Intelifil IF-SM-SCIG020B. Fits all standard 20 inch × 4.5 inch Big Blue filter housings from Watts, Pentek, Culligan, and other manufacturers using this dimensional specification. Verify your housing accepts 4.5 inch diameter cartridges before ordering.
Replacement schedule and operational limits
Standard Replacement
Replace cartridge after 12,000 gallons or when flow rate diminishes noticeably, whichever comes first. Actual lifespan depends on source water quality and chlorine levels.
Time-Based Maximum
Even with low usage, replace every six months to prevent bacterial growth on exhausted phosphate media. Phosphates can support bacterial colonization once carbon is saturated.
Temperature Range
Operate within 40°F to 100°F for optimal performance and media integrity. Higher temperatures accelerate polyphosphate dissolution and reduce carbon effectiveness.
Flow Rate Limit
Do not exceed 4 gallons per minute through this 20×4.5 filter. Higher flow reduces contact time with media and compromises filtration efficiency.
Requires Pre-Chlorination
Use only with chlorinated municipal water or add UV sterilization downstream. Polyphosphate feeds bacteria and should not be used on unchlorinated well water without additional bacterial protection.
Big Blue Standard
The 20 inch × 4.5 inch Big Blue format is an industry standard for whole-house filtration, offering high capacity and easy replacement in residential and light commercial applications.
NSF 60 Certified Media
Polyphosphate beads meet NSF 60 standards for drinking water additives, ensuring safe use in potable water systems without introducing contaminants or unsafe chemical levels.
