Thermax

Tulsion MB-108-BG Mixed Bed DI Resin

Nuclear-grade deionization for semiconductor manufacturing, lab applications, and ultra-pure water production
1 Cubic Foot (44 lbs) Mixed Bed Formula 18.2 MΩ·cm Capable Food Grade Certified

Thermax Tulsion MB-108-BG combines strongly acidic cation resin (T-42, H+ form) and strongly basic anion resin (A-23, OH- form) in precise stoichiometric ratios for single-pass ultra-pure water production. This mixed bed configuration delivers resistivity levels up to 18.2 MΩ·cm, making it the standard for semiconductor fabrication, CRT manufacturing, pharmaceutical laboratories, and any application where ionic contamination is unacceptable.

HOW IT WORKS

Dual-Resin Ion Exchange Process

1
CATION

Hydrogen Form Exchange

T-42 strong acid cation resin strips positive ions (calcium, magnesium, sodium) from source water, replacing them with hydrogen ions to eliminate hardness and dissolved salts

2
ANION

Hydroxide Form Exchange

A-23 strong base anion resin captures negative ions (chlorides, sulfates, nitrates, silica) and exchanges them for hydroxide ions, neutralizing remaining contaminants

3
RECOMBINATION

Water Formation

Hydrogen and hydroxide ions combine to form pure H₂O molecules, leaving virtually no ionic residue and achieving resistivity levels that approach theoretical limits

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

Resin Characteristics

Matrix Type Styrene-DVB copolymer (cation) / Type I macroporous (anion)
Functional Group Sulfonic acid (cation) / Quaternary ammonium (anion)
Ionic Form H+ / OH- (ready to use)
Total Capacity ≥ 1.8 eq/L (minimum combined)
Moisture Content 48–54% (as shipped)
Particle Size 300–1200 microns (16–50 mesh)
Uniformity Coefficient ≤ 1.6
Shipping Weight 44 lbs per cubic foot
Service Temperature 5–60°C (41–140°F)
Regeneration HCl (cation) / NaOH (anion) after separation
COMPATIBILITY

System Integration

Tulsion MB-108-BG is designed for polishing applications following reverse osmosis or as a standalone deionization bed in systems requiring maximum purity. The resin fits standard DI tank vessels with 1.0–1.5 cubic foot capacities and operates at flow rates of 1–3 BV/hour depending on source water quality. Pre-treatment with carbon filtration and RO membranes extends service life significantly. Regeneration requires resin separation, individual acid/caustic treatment, and remixing, though many users operate MB-108-BG in single-use disposable mode for lab and small-scale semiconductor applications. Not compatible with oxidizing agents (chlorine, ozone) or organic solvents that can foul the resin matrix.
