| SKU Format | FS1-1/2-[mesh] or FS1-1/2-[mesh]SS |
Screen Replacement Process
- Shut off water supply and relieve system pressure by opening the flush valve at the bottom of the Rusco housing
- Unscrew the sump from the filter head, remove the old screen element from the center tube assembly
- Inspect the center tube for cracks or damage, then slide the new replacement screen onto the tube until fully seated
- Reassemble the sump to the head, hand-tighten firmly, then slowly open the water supply and check for leaks
- Flush the spin-down valve for 10-15 seconds to clear any installation debris and verify proper flow
Mesh Selection Guide
Choose 24-30 mesh for shale, shell, and general debris in well water. Select 40-60 mesh for pipe scale, coarse sand, and sprinkler systems with sand-sensitive valves. Use 100-140 mesh for fine sand from new wells, drip irrigation, and poultry watering devices or fogger nozzles. Specify 250-1000 mesh for very fine sediment and pre-treatment before reverse osmosis or ultraviolet systems. Stainless steel screens (SS suffix models) offer superior longevity in high-flow or abrasive sediment conditions. All screens fit 3/4" and 1" Rusco spin-down filter housings with SxS connections.
