| End Cap Material | Polystyrene with polystyrene outer casing |
Installing Your GAC-20 Filter
- Shut off water supply and relieve system pressure by opening a downstream faucet before removing the filter housing sump.
- Remove the old cartridge and clean the housing sump with mild soap and water, checking the o-ring for wear or damage.
- Insert the Pentek GAC-20 vertically into the housing, ensuring it seats properly on the center post without forcing or tilting.
- Lubricate the o-ring with food-grade silicone grease, thread the sump back onto the housing cap, and hand-tighten firmly.
- Turn water supply back on slowly and check for leaks, then flush the system for 3-5 minutes to clear carbon fines and activate the filter bed.
Where the GAC-20 Works Best
The Pentek GAC-20 fits all standard 20-inch filter housings with 2.5-inch diameter cartridge capacity, making it compatible with most whole-house and well water filtration systems. It is effective for municipal and well water applications where chlorine taste and odor, organic chemicals, and general water taste issues are present. This filter works best as a second or third stage after sediment pre-filtration to protect the carbon bed from premature fouling. The flow-through design and 20-micron post-filter make it suitable for moderate flow rate applications up to 2 GPM in residential and light commercial settings.
