Watts MAXCL-975 Technical Details
| Model Number | MAXCL-975 (also sold as MAXETW-975) |
| Dimensions | 10" x 2.5" |
| Filtration Rating | 5 micron nominal |
| Carbon Type | Coconut shell carbon block |
| Primary Function | Maximum chlorine removal, taste and odor reduction |
| Compatible Applications | RO pre-filtration, whole-house systems, point-of-use |
| Construction | Extruded carbon block (no carbon fines release) |
| Testing | Independently verified performance |
Installing Your Carbon Block Filter
- Shut off water supply and relieve system pressure before opening the filter housing.
- Remove old cartridge and clean the housing sump with mild soap and water, inspecting the o-ring for any wear or damage.
- Insert the Watts MAXCL-975 cartridge into the housing, ensuring it seats properly on the center standpipe.
- Hand-tighten the housing cap and slowly turn water supply back on, checking for leaks at the housing seal.
- Flush the new carbon filter for 3-5 minutes to purge any air and fine carbon dust from the manufacturing process.
System Fit and Applications
The Watts MAXCL-975 fits any standard 10-inch filter housing with 2.5-inch inner diameter, including most Watts, Pentek, Culligan, and GE housings. It works equally well as RO pre-filtration (protecting membranes from chlorine damage), in whole-house configurations for citywater treatment, or as a point-of-use cartridge for taste and odor improvement. The 5-micron rating also provides sediment filtration, making this a dual-purpose cartridge that can replace separate sediment and carbon stages in space-constrained installations.
