Watts-SF-978 Watts String Wound Cartridge Standard 10" in
Watts SF-978 String Wound Sediment Cartridge
Precision sediment removal without media migration
String Wound Construction
Polypropylene string wound tightly around a core creates depth filtration that traps sediment throughout the media, not just on the surface. Reduces particles from 50 micron down to 1 micron depending on rating selected.
No Media Migration
Solid polypropylene fibers stay locked in place without shedding or breaking down into your water. No downstream contamination from filter media entering your system or appliances.
Chemical Resistance
Food grade polypropylene resists acids, bases, and solvents. No leachables or extractables to affect taste or safety. Meets FDA requirements for potable water contact in food and beverage applications.
Versatile Installation
Standard 10 inch by 2.5 inch cartridge fits most whole house filter housings and under-counter systems. Rated for temperatures up to 140°F and pressures up to 40 psi for residential and light commercial use.
Watts SF-978 Filter Specifications
| Model Number | Watts SF-978 |
| Dimensions | 10" x 2.5" (9.875" length x 2.5" diameter) |
| Micron Ratings | 1, 5, 20, or 50 micron |
| Media Type | String wound 100% polypropylene |
| Max Temperature | 140°F (60°C) |
| Max Pressure | 40 psi |
| Certifications | FDA compliant for food and beverage contact |
Works with standard 10-inch filter housings
The Watts SF-978 fits any standard 10-inch by 2.5-inch filter housing used in whole house water filtration systems, under-counter filter assemblies, and RO pre-filtration stages. Common applications include sediment pre-filtration for reverse osmosis systems, well water sediment removal, municipal water filtration, and protection for water heaters, appliances, and fixtures. Select your micron rating based on sediment type: 50 micron for heavy sand and silt, 20 micron for general sediment, 5 micron for fine particles, or 1 micron for polishing and RO pre-filtration.
Replacement schedule by water quality
Municipal Water
Replace every 3 to 6 months in city water applications with low sediment load. Monitor pressure drop across the filter as an indicator of loading.
Well Water
Replace every 1 to 3 months in well water systems with moderate to high sediment. Check filter more frequently after heavy rain or disturbance to the well.
Pressure Drop Indicator
Replace when pressure drop exceeds 10 psi or flow rate decreases noticeably. Sediment-loaded filters reduce system performance and can damage downstream components.
Clean Packaging
Individually sealed in poly bags to maintain cleanliness until installation
Easy Replacement
Standard cartridge size drops into most residential and commercial housings
System Protection
Removes sediment before it clogs valves, damages seals, or shortens equipment life
Watts Quality
Manufactured by Watts Premier with food-grade materials and proven construction
