Aries (Af-10-2012) 10" x 2.5" (2 lb) KDF-55-GAC Filter
Aries AF-10-2012 10" x 2.5" KDF-55/GAC Specialty Filter
High-capacity redox filtration with 2 pounds of KDF-55 and Activated Carbon for comprehensive chlorine, heavy metal, and taste & odor removal
The Aries AF-10-2012 combines 2 pounds of KDF-55 redox media with granular activated carbon in a standard 10" x 2.5" cartridge. KDF-55 handles oxidation-reduction chemistry to remove chlorine and reduce heavy metals, while the GAC media tackles taste, odor, and additional organic contaminants. This dual-media approach extends filter life significantly compared to carbon-only cartridges and provides bacteriostatic protection against microbial growth.
Why KDF-55 and Carbon Work Better Together
Redox Filtration
KDF-55 uses oxidation-reduction reactions to remove chlorine and reduce heavy metals like lead, mercury, and cadmium without relying solely on adsorption
Bacteriostatic Media
KDF-55 prevents bacterial growth inside the filter, keeping the carbon bed cleaner and extending the effective life of the cartridge
Extended Carbon Life
By handling chlorine and metals upstream, KDF allows the activated carbon to focus on what it does best: removing taste, odor, and organic compounds
Chloramine Reduction
More effective against chloramines than carbon alone, making this filter ideal for municipal water systems that have switched from chlorine to chloramine disinfection
Standard 10" x 2.5" Size
Fits all standard 10-inch filter housings, compatible with both whole-house and point-of-use applications with proper flow management
18,000 Gallon Capacity
Rated for up to 18,000 gallons under normal conditions, with actual lifespan varying based on water quality and flow rate

Where This Filter Works
The Aries AF-10-2012 fits any standard 10-inch filter housing with 2.5-inch inner diameter. Common applications include reverse osmosis pre-filtration (especially for chloramine reduction), whole-house filtration systems when staged after sediment filtration and flow is managed to stay at or below 1.5 GPM, point-of-use systems, and specialty applications requiring heavy metal reduction or bacteriostatic protection. Compatible with residential, commercial, and light industrial water treatment systems. Not recommended as a sole sediment filter—pair with a 5-micron sediment pre-filter for best results.
Aries Filter Works has manufactured specialty water filtration media since 1992, trusted by water treatment professionals for consistent quality and performance.
