Filmtec (NF90-4040) NANO Filtration Membrane 2,200 GPD 4" X 40"
Filmtec NF90-4040 Nanofiltration Membrane
Selective separation at lower operating pressures
Low-Pressure Operation
The NF90-4040 operates efficiently at 70 psi, significantly lower than standard RO membranes, reducing energy costs and extending pump life in commercial installations
Selective Rejection
Removes over 97% of magnesium sulfate while allowing beneficial minerals to pass through. Targets pesticides, herbicides, THM precursors, nitrates, and iron without complete demineralization
2,200 GPD Capacity
82 square feet of active membrane surface area delivers up to 2,200 gallons per day at test conditions, suitable for restaurants, small manufacturing, and agricultural applications
Organic Removal
Effectively removes low-molecular-weight organic compounds including agricultural chemicals and disinfection byproduct precursors that affect taste and safety
Commercial Construction
4" x 40" industry-standard form factor fits existing commercial housings. Dow Filmtec manufacturing ensures consistent performance and membrane longevity under continuous operation

Housing and system requirements
The NF90-4040 nanofiltration membrane fits standard commercial 4-inch diameter membrane housings rated for 4" x 40" elements. Compatible with Filmtec, Pentair, Hydranautics, and other commercial RO/NF housings using industry-standard end caps and brine seals. Requires vessel rated for minimum 100 psi working pressure. Use with commercial-grade feed pumps capable of delivering 70-90 psi feed pressure. Best performance achieved with pre-filtration including 5-micron sediment and carbon block filters to protect membrane surface from fouling.
Replacement schedule for commercial use
Membrane Inspection
Monitor permeate flow and rejection rates. Clean membrane with approved chemicals if flow drops 10% or salt passage increases significantly
Membrane Replacement
Replace the NF90-4040 element when chemical cleaning no longer restores performance, or when permeate quality cannot meet required specifications
Pre-Filter Service
Replace sediment and carbon pre-filters according to manufacturer schedules to prevent membrane fouling and extend NF90-4040 service life
Performance Testing
Document feed pressure, permeate flow, concentrate flow, and TDS readings to track membrane degradation and schedule preventive maintenance
Lower Operating Costs
70 psi operation reduces energy consumption compared to standard RO membranes running at 150+ psi
Targeted Contaminant Removal
Removes pesticides, herbicides, nitrates,
