Harmsco (HUR-90-HP) Hurricane Single Filter Housing 100 GPM; 2"

The Harmsco HUR-90-HP Hurricane combines a cyclone separator with cartridge filtration in a single electropolished 304 stainless steel housing rated for 100 GPM at 2" NPT connections. Its patented up-flow design with tangential entry prevents air entrapment while extending filter life by separating dense solids before they reach the cartridge media.
SPECIFICATIONS

Harmsco HUR-90-HP Technical Details

Housing Material Electropolished 304 stainless steel
Connection Size 2" NPT inlet/outlet, 1" NPT drain
Pressure Rating 150 psi maximum (10 bar)
Temperature Rating 140°F (60°C) standard, 250°F (121°C) with optional SS standpipe
Dimensions (H x Dia) 29-7/8" x 13" (service height 51")
Certifications NSF 61 listed
INSTALLATION & USE

Installing the Hurricane HUR-90-HP

  1. Mount housing on level surface with minimum 15" x 15" floor space and ensure 51" vertical clearance for cartridge removal and service access.
  2. Connect 2" NPT inlet and outlet ports using appropriate pipe thread sealant rated for potable water applications, ensuring tangential inlet orientation for proper cyclone separation.
  3. Install drain valve on 1" NPT bottom port and route to appropriate disposal or collection point for periodic flushing of separated solids.
  4. Insert appropriate micron-rated cartridge onto CPVC standpipe (or optional stainless steel standpipe for high-temperature applications) and secure fail-safe lid with brass wing nuts.
  5. Open inlet valve slowly, monitor 1/4" gauge sample ports for pressure differential across cartridge, and bleed air through outlet port before bringing system to full flow.
COMPATIBILITY

Cartridge Options & Applications

The Harmsco HUR-90-HP accepts Hurricane 90 series cartridges in a full range of micron ratings and media types including pleated polyester, melt-blown polypropylene, and carbon block. Standard CPVC standpipe and EPDM rim gaskets suit most commercial drinking water, reverse osmosis pre-filtration, well water treatment, and SWTR compliance applications up to 140°F. Upgrade to optional stainless steel standpipe for process water or cooling tower applications above 140°F, and specify Viton gaskets for chemical compatibility with chlorinated or corrosive source water. The patented cyclone design makes this housing especially effective for high-sediment well water, surface water treatment under LT2 regulations, and ground water remediation where extended cartridge life directly reduces operational costs.

🔧 Pro Tip: Monitor the pressure differential between inlet and outlet gauge ports rather than relying on a fixed cartridge replacement schedule. The Hurricane's cyclone pre-separation typically doubles cartridge life compared to standard housings, but actual dirt loading varies with source water quality. Replace cartridges when differential pressure reaches 20-25 psi, and flush the cyclone sump through the bottom drain port monthly in high-sediment applications.
